First-Ever Spring Enrollment for 2025 MECC Nursing Program

Big Stone Gap, VA — Mountain Empire Community College (MECC) is thrilled to announce our first-ever Spring enrollment for the nursing program in 2025. This significant development provides an exciting opportunity for aspiring nurses to start their education in the Spring semester, a first in our institution's history.

Students enrolling in Spring 2025 will need to complete their prerequisite courses in Fall 2024. In September, they will take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), where they must achieve a national percentile rank of 45 or better. All applications must be submitted by the October 15 deadline to ensure eligibility for this groundbreaking new start date.

"This expansion underscores MECC's commitment to increasing accessibility to high-quality nursing education and training. Our program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the healthcare field, meeting the growing demand for skilled nursing professionals," said Wes Mullins, Dean of Health Sciences. "Expanding our current MECC Nursing program to offer two admissions annually enhances both the accessibility to high-quality nursing education while addressing the regional nursing shortage with empowered, skilled professionals."
